CONF. 1,5 DAYS

Radiographic imaging has always been a cornerstone in orthodontic treatment planning.

In recent years, there have been multiple advances in imaging, notably the advent of conebeam CT, that have enhanced the diagnostic process of the oral and maxillofacial complex greatly.

For the first time, we are able to evaluate the TMJs and the teeth simultaneously and note the position of the condyle in the fossa with the teeth in maximum intercuspation, thus assessing the relationship of the occlusion to the condition of the TMJ.

Many other diagnostic tasks are also facilitated, such as the evaluation of the position and condition of impacted teeth, evaluation of the airway and its relationship to craniomandibular growth, and morphology of the jaws over time.

This two-day course will discuss the effect of the TMJ function and dysfunction on mandibular growth and modeling of the bones, as well as its effect on the development of the airway and changes in occlusion, as assessed on radiographic imaging (plain film, CBCT and MRI).

A discussion of normal anatomy of the structures seen on a CBCT and how they relate to orthodontic treatment (facial growth and impactions) as well as the most common pathology seen in the pediatric/adolescent population will be shown.

There will be a thorough presentation of assessment of the airway and dental impactions radiographically, including some background information on these diagnostic tasks. Postural analysis with emphasis on the cervical spine in relation to the TMJ and the airway will be demonstrated.

Outline:

Day 1:

9 - 10:30  Understanding the correlation between TMD and the airway and how it presents radiographically

11- 12:30  Understanding the correlation between TMD and the airway and how it presents radiographically part 2

14 - 15:30 TMJ anatomy and growth and their effect on the occlusal and craniomandibular development as assessed on CBCT and MRI

16 -17:30  Radiographic analysis of the upper respiratory airway

Day 2:

9-10:30  Conebeam CT Anatomy( Maxilla, Mandible, Skull base, Cervical spine)

11-12:30 Common pathology in the young orthodontic population and Anaysis of dental Imapctions
